Playing around in the interstitial space at the hospital after work today. I've had the image of one of my dolls crawling around in there for...a while. I've been meaning to do this for over a year - ever since I first saw the place during my orientation of the various mechanical rooms at the hospital - but I've never had the opportunity until now.

[livejournal.com profile] nagasvoice, I didn't initially intend these photos to freak Dance out, honest. Though I'll admit that I was maybe thinking a bit of the infrared "vision" of pit vipers when I was messing with the curves on this first shot.

And these ones are just for [livejournal.com profile] greenjudy since I've told her so much about the interstitial space. ^_~

Must. Shoot. Interstitial. Spaaaaaaace

Those shots of Hideo are knockouts. I'm rereading "Freeport" right now, disobeying a direct order from Mal to just wait for the rewrite because I CANNOT WAIT, and this feels like a fit for those freezing corridors.

Story for this, yes? Dance, I'm sorry if this provokes uncomfortable resurgence of Nagavision...

Yeah, I thought you'd like the Interstitial. It's got a great story, too - they built it in between the first floor and the third floor, but it's not part of the second floor (though it is accessible only from the second floor, the first floor - assuming they haven't boarded over the trapdoor yet - and the roof). It's because they needed a place to house the HVAC units and the air systems, the fire dampers, water and medical gas systems, and all those other good things. Then, when they added the second and third floors on, the structure wasn't strong enough to hold them. They had to insert all those big metal girders into it, and they sprayed them with spackle - I have no true knowledge as to why, but presumably it's to prevent rust or some such. Now the third floor sits on top of that steel bridge, the Operating Rooms and Post-Op balanced on a hollow space the size of a small warehouse, filled with pipes and clanking and humming and whooshing, and the second floor exists around it but rarely touches it. The only people who have keys to it are Security and Maintenance. I think very few people outside of those two departments even know it exists - the maps of the building don't have it marked, it just looks like the second floor ends and the roof begins there.

This also reminds me of the last scenes of "The French Connection," which is more a kick in the head than a movie, per se, but the last bit was filmed in a derelict warehouse, and it's simply incredible. That shiny insulation is awesome.

I will be very cross if you don't bust out a photostory set in here RSN. Hideo? Wren and Jian? XD

Oh dears. Um, give me time to think. Thinking is not working right now. Sleeping would be nice.

Talked to my dad for a bit. Don't think I'll accept the CBP position if I get it. Going to go take the test tomorrow, though, just to keep my options open. Probably hold out for a CI (higher pay, for one) position. More my line of work, more my interests, less conflict of my own beliefs with what I'd be doing some of the time.

Also means not having to put off school until Winter quarter.

Means staying at hospital, but I like hospital, so that's okay.

thank you for the warning!

Dance says it is...intriguing.
I can go off into that part of my brain and follow him to a small degree, but it gets very...small and tight and something close to monocular. It does some funky things in *my* head when he tries to explain.

He says the blue is calming, he likes the blue.
Thank you for only showing him the blue.

If it turned a weird sort of tan-orange, with flares of other colors, then it would agitate him. He doesn't *remember* what all the color coding means, and it can be absolutely vital to flash onto it and act immediately.

Which makes *me* go, erm...

He says it also helps to see Hideo like this, clearly and not in a dream.
He says Drin was right about it (from seeing her on that trip) when he said that Hideo is very beautiful and remote and impressively strong and he wishes to relay his highest respects for her courage.

He doesn't know what she did, or will do. He doesn't remember that. He just knows it happened/will happen.

0.o

As a side-note, I know they spray coatings which look like that on steel beams in construction all the time, these days. I understand it is intended to act as fire retardants because, besides rust weakening a structure, beyond a certain point in intense fires in very tall buildings the draft can get strong enough (as in elevator shafts) that any oxidized areas can burn.
I have no idea how accurate this is, as I don't recall the precise source, and some newspaper accounts can wildly misrepresent scientific information.

Erm.

Monocular vision

Where the hell is that coming from??

You know, that's weird/feels right, because I actually had altered the curves in that first shot so that the colors were all orangey and yellow and bits of green, rather than blue, but it didn't seem to work, so I changed it back.

The blue lighting in the unaltered photos, that's the result of me aiming the whitebalance detect zone at a very red fire extinguisher hanging on one of the walls and hitting the "sample" button. I liked the result, so it stayed.

I don't know what's going on here, in these pictures, but I think it's not friendly. Fitting that Dance should find it calming.

Hideo thinks Dance is very interesting. Very interesting. Interesting in an advances and improvements sort of way.

She's rather adamant about that.

She also thanks him, but replies that she's not courageous - just stupid and angry.

Well, Hideo herself is a rather experimental proposition, you know. She's version 9, and the first functional version her creator managed to wrangle. Versions 1-8 were...less than operative.

I was admiring Hideo's posing again tonight. The one open hand looks like it's signaling to the rest of her team, "come ahead," in some shots, and in others it appears poised to grab the gun out of the back hand and aim it in a new direction. That kind of coordination between the hands is just so cool looking. I love that whole smooth rolling effect.

Almost forgot to mention, in the rest of it--

Dance remembers the irises in Hideo's eyes. Those disk-like white checkerboard shapes. He says he remembers those being something reliable when things were bad, as in "this person's face is all you can see as you go unconscious and it is a huge relief that you can recognize them," bad. BAD bad.

0.0 ??!?

You know, when I went in tonight and emptied out the convention bag and put Dance's new dragon necklace on him and put Emma in some different pants, they were just smiling. A lot.
Not saying much.
I have no idea why they think the whole thing is so funny.

You can tell when a DoltiD is smirking, and Drin is way more obvious about it.

Dammit.

If Dance finds seeing Hideo's eyes as he goes unconscious a relief, he's got a hell of a lot more going for him in the balls department than I do! @_@

Well, either that or there's something else going on there that we just don't know about.

Dance is smirking nonstop, huh? Figures. And Emma...! Jeebus.

I have this horrible feeling that she was involved in getting him out of some mess when he was beyond being able to help himself.
Or something.
You know that impression when the heart attack victim sees the EMT tech's shirt patch and finally recognizes what they're seeing?

Okaay, I've run out of big-eyeball shorthand.

No one trusts me in environments like that.

*laughs.* I'm not surprised though. With the space that's needed to be heated, the size is a requirement.

Every time I hear the word "boiler," my mind launches back to that scene in The Shining.

Wow, Armed and dangerous! What an amazing location and what an exciting shoot. I'm going to have to start thinking about more exciting locations for shoots than my porch (of course I suck at indoor photography). I have long wanted to take my boys boating for a photoshoot, but the disaster potential seems very high.

That's a good suggestion, especially as the "boat" would be one of those boat shaped shelves and probably not water tight. I even have water and grass out my back door (also rednecks with guns).
OMG, I just realized that the lake will freeze in winter and if I can only find bjd sized iceskates.... (hang on -- how do you balance a bjd on skates??)

Hideo is the best thing since floating elbow joints.

Is she heavy?

She is heavy, but not horribly so. She doesn't flop all that well, sad to say - she's wired with a fairly thick wire, so her arms are pretty stiff. ^_~

With Hido around, your going to have to triple your weaponery statsh! There won't be enough guns to go around.

Also, scored one of these music players from Jaime! Now Dark can have his tunes while he kills the baddies!
