More Musings on Body Options for Jian Yuan

So I thought I'd settled pretty well on the Iplehouse Model Boy as a possible body for Jian. It would require a lot of work - too tall, I'd need to shorten it, some modifications to the shoulder blades, etc - but it looks pretty good. Something made me hesitate, though, and so I've held off on buying one until I see some at Dollectable this weekend. I brought Jian's head (he's not amused by this, though Wren appears to be, and Rafe thinks it's hilarious - but Rafe and Jian hate each other, so no surprise there) down here so I can compare it to the wonderful abundance of boy bodies I'm sure to encounter.

However, I've also just noticed another (new-ish) body that might very well beat out the Iplehouse one. It's the LikeMey Male Body, and it's much closer, aesthetically, to the styling of most of the other dolls in my crew. In addition, the height is already good - not quite as short as I'd like, but I can certainly live with it. I also love the way the muscles in the back were sculpted, and feel no need at all to modify them. Plus, there are three different resin colors to choose from, so I can get the one that matches Jian's head best (as opposed to the hit-and-miss-pray-it's-close deal I was going to have to do with Iplehouse). I've wanted to get some of the LikeMey spare head busts for a while now, so if I do decide on the LikeMey body, I think I'll buy one in each color first, and see which works best for Jian. My only two almost-complaints are the shape of the thigh joint - I'm not sure how I feel about the pronouncement of that ball - and that his shoulders aren't quite as wide as I'd like (.5cm narrower than Wren's, in fact). Overall, he's not as "beefy" as the Iplehouse boy - he's a bit more slender than I'd like for Jian - but I like the details of his sculpt better. I also don't care for his hands - but that's not a problem, as Jian has hands of his own that are going to get put on whatever body he ends up riding on (Senior Delf boy hands), and besides, I don't particularly like the sculpt of the Iplehouse hands for Jian, either.

I wonder if anyone at Dollectable will have a LikeMey doll, so I can mess with it and check out the posing...

Argh. Too many options!! (I remember when this hobby was so much less complicated...but I prefer it this way, I really do.)

It is frustrating. Options are a wonderful thing though and in the long run, you DO want to be happy with the product you're receiving. I worry/wonder about my choices pretty often. Considering my lack of recent involvement, you have to consider this-

When I hear of these designs you already know about, I'm so flipped out not knowing them that it's not even funny. I have no idea how to proceed. I look at them and blink, wonder however did I get so out of the loop, and then...

remember the 'k' word: kids.

...I want to strangle that professor. For the rest of my life, she'll have me imagining small goats in children's clothing every time I use the k word.

You have a really nice artistic eye for this sort of thing. Trust your instinct. Something doesn't feel right, move on.

I was looking at that body recently too. Can't afford anything now, but I''d love to see it at Dollectable. The musculature reminds me of the DT 15boy body, which I heard very good things about, but which is rarely available.

Yeah, I've got a Dollstown 15Boy for Darryl (and 15Girl, for Wren), and I LOVE it. I'm leaning more and more heavily toward this LikeMey one for Jian. I can always buy it, then sell it and get something different if it doesn't suit him.

I originally couldn't go, no $, but two friends have kicked in to make it possible for me to go on Sat. I'm also bringing along some doll-sized quilts for the swap meet on Sat evening.

No, no one that I saw had one. However, Brig's booth had a LikeMey spare head bust at it, and I was able to compare THAT to Jian's head...

Suffice to say, I'll be ordering a LikeMey boy body in the "Volks" matching skintone sometime in early August.

I will see what I can do about getting us to a lake to swim! I love swimming outdoors, clothing optional, and am hoping to really max it out while the sun is still out.
