Jian's Body

kiyakotariOkay, lads and lasses. I need some advice here. I'm trying desperately to figure out what body would be right for Ming Jian Yuan, also known as He-Who-Is-Seimei and Wren's-Partner-First-Lover-Second.
The criteria:
1) Resin must match Volks (and by extension, the Seimei head) normal tone fairly well.
2) Body must be muscular without being chunky (Jian's been practicing martial arts since he could walk, he was a college-grad turned-rebel-leader-turned-soldier, and he's NOW what basically amounts to a SWAT team member), and must not be...well...girly-ish? (eg: The CP/Luts boy bodies are definitely OUT.)
3) Body must pose well.
4) Body must be mature.
5) Body must be as close as possible to Wren in height (58-59 cm is best, certainly no taller than 60cm) as they're supposed to be of even heights.
Here are the ones I'm looking at right now (with pros/cons listed), though if anyone has a suggestion I'm more than willing to take those, too!
ELFDOLL BOYS
PRO: Probably the current 'leader' as far as my preferences in musculature and build.
CON: Unfortunately, I would need to buy TWO of these boys and switch some of their body parts around (Jian's built like the taller boy in his torso/arms, but shorter...so I'd probably have to put the shorter legs/hips - it looks like most of the taller guy's height is in his legs - with the more sculpted torso). This is pretty easy for me to do, but might be a tad expensive...then again, money isn't so much a determining factor in this project.
PRO: I LOVE those hands, that sculpt, and I've handled them before and know that I'm fairly pleased with their posing (at least the shorter ones...and the big ones probably aren't that different).
CON: I don't think the resin will match (I'm looking into that), because the Elfdoll boys come in a darker resin and I'm pretty sure it's impossible to get them in the lighter resin color they use for the girls. If it IS possible, these guys will probably win, as I KNOW that resin will match the Seimei head. (Hey, I can always beg Rainman, right? Right.)
DOLLMORE YOUTH ADAM
PRO: I've held him and I KNOW I like his posing, and the height is right (I've compared GJ's Erling to Wren). The resin is probably a fairly decent match, just based off of my own observations. And I do like his hand sculpt quite a bit (I'm a sucker for good hands, can you tell?).
CON: His sculpt, while there is muscle definition, is a bit more 'willowy' than I'd like. Jian's more solid than that. I love this body, but I'm not sure if it's right for Jian.
PRO: They're available separately, which means I won't have a spare head of some sort floating around that I'll need to sell off or find a use for.
SECRETDOLL ZITO
PRO: The height is almost certainly right (I've got some CP/Zito comparison pics, and I know how Wren relates to CP). The resin looks pretty pale, which is a good sign. I like the way the muscles are done on the upper torso, and the legs look like they could probably be made to look muscular rather than merely 'thick' with just a little addition of definition here and there.
CON: This body has potential, but it would take a lot of modification to fit the Jian bill. The neck is probably too thick for Jian's head, so I'd have to sand that. I don't like the lower torso/hip structure at all, and there would be carving and chopping needed to make it what I'm looking for. The hands aren't exactly my cup of tea, but I can probably change those out at a later date. I've never held one, so I don't know how I feel as far as resin/posing goes, but from the pics I have of him, it seems there's a tendency to really arch his back, which I don't like - I'd have to modify a 'ledge' into him to fix that, most likely. Also, I don't like how far forward his legs seem to sit in their sockets (and how that makes his ass look), so I'd probably have to do some work there.
SSINDOLL 60cm BOY
PRO: I like the shape of this body - the porpotions and the overall look. The height is probably fairly good. I like the hands, from what we can see in that picture.
CON: Next to nothing is known about these bodies. No one on DoA (or possibly anywhere) seems to own a Ssin 60cm boy (their names are Camio and Phillip, but only Phillip is still available for sale), though there are people on DoA who own OTHER Ssin dolls. Ssin's website does not have any pictures of the boy bodies, and they've not replied to my messages (left in three different places AND eMailed) over the past week asking about seeing some). This is, in fact, the only picture of the body I've ever seen. I do like it...but I'm thinking it might be a bit too slender for Jian. More a Darryl body type. Also, no idea what the resin match is like at this point (I'm looking into that).
So. Any thoughts, peeps? Someone? Please, help me. I'm tearing my hair out over here.

Unidoll uses french resin, check bellekitsune's LJ, she has a Unidoll girl and two oldskin Volks dolls(+), for resin comparison. Jace is 67cm tall, though.

Date: 2007-02-19 07:11 pm (UTC)I did kick around the notion of a Lati boy, but their scale is a bit off - I've had a chance to compare them to Wren, and since I know how she compares to Jian's head... **sigh** Which sucks, cause the sculpt is beautiful. They're still in consideration, though. Thanks for reminding me of them!
The UniDoll real boy, Jace, would be nearly perfect if he was shorter. The resin might be a bit dark, too, but probably not too much so (the Seimei head is actually a tad lighter than Volks normal, which is why an ElfDoll boy in the girl ElfDoll resin would be perfect. Yes, I know. I'm too picky. I can't help it. This is Jian. And while the sculpt on the UniDoll normal boys is great, it's very, very NOT Jian.
Iplehouse is pretty, but too slender for Jian by far.

I've got Sakura-con coming up (that's at LEAST $400-500), and textbooks for WWU at the same time (probably around $200 if I'm luck, more if I'm not), and then at the beginning of June I'll be having to go down for Dollectable, which will be awesome, but I'm looking at plane tickets and stuf there, too. So...yeah. We'll see.
The question is...do I set aside my tax return for dollness, or just put it toward the other things I've got to pay for right about now? I think 'other' things will probably win out.

Oh, Dollti...yeah, Dollti definitely falls into my realm of love. If I ever see one, I'm getting him hands down, and everything else (other dolls, bank accounts, free time...) be damned. But I don't think I could bring myself to break him up even if he's a perfect size and resin match for Seimei. Because...well...he's Dollti. I love Dollti. TT_TT
That aside, however...I don't think Seimei's head will fit on a Dollti body, just thinking back on the one we got to hold at Fanime. Jian's head is actually pretty big...but if the ElfDoll thing doesn't go through and Dollmore doesn't work, I might look into Dollti as an option. Those other two - Secretdoll and SsinDoll - aren't really serious considerations, and I've pretty much decided against them.
