Uncanny Dream (cue venting, then return to panic)

Currently freaking out all over my apartment about this, and the fact that it's taking place in less than a week and I am so not ready.

I have to finish the walls of my set (the floor is at least done, though it took about a week and dozens of hours of labor, and completing it caused inflammation in the extensor tendons of my right hand - but it is gorgeous), paint a doll head, MAKE A TAIL FOR ZSUZSA (insert panic here), repair the two pieces of doll furniture that Kami damaged within minutes of their arrival (she bit the corners off both of them - but I have wood putty, paint, and acrylic varnish, and I will not be stopped!), make a miniature window and fireplace, and make a bunch of little accessories that will go in the set (which I need to get more supplies for - FUCK MY LIFE).

I had hoped to get Tlaloc's wings done in time for the exhibition so I could display him as well, but the feathers I want were just too freaking expensive when added onto all the other supplies I had to buy, and once I had the spare cash to drop $100+ on feathers, it was too late for them to be shipped to me in time for me to finish the wings, so he's not going to be in the display. (Also, it's possible that the sheer size of his wings would have made it impossible to see a lot of the set, which would have been a shame.)

On the plus side, Ǝrəšiš is basically done (she's the one who needs a faceup), and aside from her total lack of tail so is Zsuzsa (I finished the final touches on her face and jewelry today), and I don't really need to do anything with Davlin. So at least the only actual DOLL stuff I have left to do is Zsuzsa's tail and Ǝrəšiš' face.

Big hurdle right now is the fact that my dad's miter saw is broken, so I have to find some other way to make the dozen or so 45° cuts I need in this wood. TT_TT

Alright, venting done. Going back to panicking now.

Well, I don't know how amazing it's going to turn out, but I sure hope it's at least pretty damned cool. (Okay, so the floor is a bit amazing. I'm in love with the floor. I may insist that it be buried with me.) I'll take plenty of pictures at the exhibition, and post them up here. I'm sure other people who are there will also post tons of photos in a Gallery - Meetups thread on DoA once everything is over and done with.

I am staying relatively hydrated, yes. ^__^ My tendons are fine - I don't often use a hammer, so my body isn't used to that particular repetitive motion, and I decided (stupidly) to pound some 400 or so tiny nails into this floor all in one go. Since they were so small, I couldn't swing the hammer, and had to pound them using only wrist flexion. About 3/4 of the way through I realized that my hand was pretty much stuck in it's "hammer holding" position, and the last 50 nails or so were pure torture, but I got them all done and the swelling was gone by the next day, so it's all good. I'm sleeping okay, though I should have gone to bed about six hours ago, and am going to be kicking myself for not doing so later tonight. The hand-off for that is that I have almost finished the faceup on Ǝrəšiš.

Places like home supply warehouses do sell miter-cut boxes with backsaws, if you wanted to do it by hand, but that sounds like it might be damaging to your wrists.
Do you have a Dremel blade or something like that you could use instead?
Something like a reciprocating saw with a really fine sawblade might work too, if you have a way to brace the wood in question.

Oh, I could definitely use a manual saw, no problem - my wrists are fine. Sadly, I truly do not have the spare cash to drop on a miter box right now (nor do I have anywhere to store one once I'm done with it). I'm going to see if I can get Dad's miter saw to work (he has a manual one, too, if he can remember where he put it). If not, I'll take this to work and see of one of the tools in the MASSIVE inventory in the Maintenance/Facilities department shop can do what I need. It will get done, it's just that it might take longer than I had hoped to get the right equipment lined up, and the walls are kind of stuck where they are until I get these pieces of wood cut.

I am indeed! Though I ended up having to fudge some things on the room due to lack of time, so it's not going to be world-accurate by any means. The dolls, at least, are ready to go. Davlin, Zsuzsa, and Ǝrəšiš are all set. I'm passing out now - have been working ALL day for the last three days in a row, and actually at work each night. At least I'll get a few hours of sleep this morning before I have to get up at 0600 for the exhibition.
