Prompt Submission Closed for Now

(While I work on what I've gotten.)
May open again later.

What it says. I want some prompts, and I want them to be about other people's characters. I want to write using characters other than the ones I normally work with. I might produce a drabble, it might be a ficlet. I doubt anything will really qualify as a full short story, but you never know.

There ARE rules.

1) No matter how well you think I know the character, I want at least one link (or you can eMail it to me, if you prefer, at maxwellsdemon02@yahoo.com) to an example of YOUR writing about them/using them. Character profiles would be nice, if you've got them already put together, but aren't what I'm talking about. I want some fiction that uses them, so I can get a taste of their personality, their quirks, their tendencies. Their brain, if you will.
2) Can be one or more characters, but if you give me a huge group I can't promise I'll use them all.
3) I don't care how often you write with them...if they're fanfiction characters, I won't do them. I'll do characters named after or inspired by the characters of others (doll people, this probably mostly applies to you), but that's it. And I reserve the right to decline such characters (though if I do, you can suggest another), because in many cases they aren't really the point of this exercise. For example, a character named Gaara who lives in a big city in the somewhat distant future, has red hair and green eyes, and fights zombies to survive each day would be totally appropriate (and fun). A character named Gaara who lives in the desert and likes sand would get a big fat middle finger.
4) I want more than just character names. Names, locations, situations, items to interact with, things to muse on (for first-person pieces), anything. But not just names.
5) You want smut, I'll write smut. But you'd better give me some DAMNED good insight into the dynamics of the relationship first. I won't write non-con for these requests.

For examples of previous successful prompts formats (though of a different nature than these), see This Post. It should give you an idea of the kinds of suggestions that will get the most response from me. There is such a thing as being TOO specific.

If I think of anything else, I'll add it, but that's all for now. So Prompt Me Hard!

(This experiment brought to you by the fact that I'm taking creative nonfiction right now, and I want to write some fiction so bad I'm going to start chewing my toes off soon. And this week's prompt at Resinality just isn't doing it for me.)

NOTE: I've screened most of the posts of character writing examples, because quite a few people have indicated they didn't necessarily want their work-in-progress type stuff bandied about the internets. And I know that I usually feel that way myself.

Well... it might be nice for you to do something within Time Knights if you liked. Link: www.rakurakutei.com/theloft/photo_album.htm

Hmmm... I don't know your characters as well as I would like, however, Trent and Apollo would be fun to work within your characters somehow? Perhaps Darryl was being attacked and Christian finds him? He's hurt and brought back to the Loft. How would Darryl deal within those dynamics... and Trent probably hitting on him the entire time (and possible smut is fine by me). ;)

How does this sound? Stupid/good/feel free to change....

Oh, now that has exciting possibilities. I originally intended this as a way to force myself to deal with other people's characters, rather than the ones I work with every day, but this will be very interesting, too. Navigating the differences between their worlds will be a challenge.

However...you have writing for me? I love Time Knights, but the mediums are very different, and I'd like at least one written example of the characters to work from. I know you have to have something. You write too much not to! **poke poke**

I just thought about it. If you like WWII, you could continue with the story I wrote. It is based off a real battle. I have the research. Up to you.

Hmmm....interesting thought. Unfortunately, my knowledge of both the World Wars is pretty spotty (what I do know is based mostly off of Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow, so it might be a bit...biased). Excellent piece you shared here! I think...I think I can work with this.

That's fine. Either way. Up to you! :)

Glad this could help. Looking forward to what you can do with this.

=_= I have four pages so far, single-spaced.

Good grief, this thing is going to be a monster!

I'm getting a feel for Christian's POV. I might switch to someone else's now, since I've hit something of a scene break. Hmmm. Would LOVE to do Apollo, because I find him to be a VERY interesting character, but I'm not sure I have a good enough grasp of him...

I moved that comment to screened, so other people wouldn't be able to see it.

And yeah, it REALLY helps. I'm glad I didn't try tackling his character without that info. @_@

I'd love to see you play with any of my boys! :D If you're up for it, I could email you a short something or other? (I think the only writing of them I've posted in my lj is... um. smut. ha ha.)

Sounds good! You'll need to give me a prompt direction, too. The one you gave me last time (and the one Julia gave me last time and below) are excellent examples of things that will get my mind going on its own. Just let me know when you've sent it, so I can make sure it comes through. You doing yahoo or my gMail?

Well, the logical choice would be Edward Trinley Fell.

The illogical choice would be Professor Hugo, with a side order of Erling.

But actually? I'd really like to read your take on Ira. I have very little written around him. **muses** I'll see what I can do.

Love to. Love the prompt, too. BUT...you must give me some writing! Because that's how this works. You give me a bit, I give you some. ^_~ (I want to get a feel for the psyche, even if I already know the character. Plus, dude, thinly veiled excuse to getting writing out of people. Come on! How can that be bad?)

Ooohhh I love it when you do these X3

I'd love to see what you can do when you tackle writing my Russian, Sashenka Romanov (Sashe, for short).

The scene would be Manhattan, 1949, fresh from WWII, now inching to the Cold War. A hotel lobby, as a spy dressed like a gentleman. Brief interaction with Dietrich, my German Nazi from WWII, but he doesn't recognize her as anything but a business client from Russia.

Part for the afternoon. Cut to the night scene in the hotel dining room, where she's now a lady with a wig of tumbling black curls.

"Have we met?" He asked, "A man does not easily forget seeing eyes like yours."

References:
Dietrich POV
Interactions between the two of them

Sadly I don't have any of their WWII/Cold War stuff saved, but I hope their personalities came through enough in those pieces for you.

If you don't mind reading through my crap writing, I'd love to see anything you feel like doing about Christopher and Noah. I have two versions of these characters/their stories, so I'll introduce you to the one that is a little more coherent at the moment.

Short backstory: Risto and Noah are twins living under an oppressive government that might be the Nazi regime, and might not. I'm not sure yet. Christopher, the younger brother, tends to be irritable and pessamistic, while Noah tends to be laid back and at least appear to believe that everything will be alright in the end. They tend to be branded as Gypsies by the government, but are not part of the Roma. Instead, they are simply travelers.

Very short drabble about the two can be found here. It's not much, but it shows a bit of their dynamics. In this scene, they're probably somewhere in Nazi-occupied Austria, attempting to cross south into Italy when it was still neutral, where they could blend in better than up north.

Interesting, interesting! I'd be glad to write about your boys. However, since I know next to nothing about them, could you give me a bit of basic description (hair color, eye color, height differences, etc) so I don't get big details wrong? If they have doll forms, a couple photographs would do the trick, too. Or artwork, if you have that.

Also, a situation or something is needed for these prompts. What do you want me to write about them doing, interacting with, or using? As an example, the prompt drabble you linked me could have been generated by a prompt such as: Noah. Christopher. Hawk. Soldiers. (etc)

^_~ Part of the fun of this is that I don't have to put any thought into it beyond the actual challenge of the writing. I'm leaving it up to all of you to make those decisions.

From: [identity profile] kurimja.livejournal.com
Oooh, this sounds like fun! I'd try it out too, but people tend to ignore my journals, so I harass my msn mates for prompts instead XD;
Um, if you're at all interested... could you write a piece with the following prompts?

- Kaelen before he managed to fix his chalice
- Umbrae roaming around while still enslaved (while he's still young)
- Forest or mansion gardens

Er, I can whip together a part of when Kaelen was running wild to give you a better idea of his actions, or you can take creative license and make him as crazy as you want. :D

Date: 2008-04-24 04:59 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kiyakotari.livejournal.com
Sure! But you do need to whip together a Kaelen POV or utilization snippet for me, and also give me general characteristics (hair, eyes, height, skin, race, etc) so I can be sure I get them all correct. And in this case, I'd also need age and appropriate Jewels. ^_~

Date: 2008-04-24 05:14 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kurimja.livejournal.com
Alrighty, I'll get started on the snippet, but for now I'll toss over his general characteristics ^_^

Hair: Long, dark brown with white/silver streaks
Eyes: Dark green with slit pupils
Height: Er... Not sure how to convert this, so I'll say as tall as Umbrae on his knees? ^^;
Skin: Pale, almost white
Race: Shadow Elf (claimed to be extinct/nonexistent race/fairytale to most)
Age: At that moment, 1100, roughly translates to 12/13 y'old.
Jewels: Ebon grey and Ebony
Status: Warlord Prince without a Court or Queen to serve/Untrained natural Black Widow with undyed nails/claws at this point

Date: 2008-04-28 12:37 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kurimja.livejournal.com
Please let me know if you need any more from me. ^^ (and if you have any random prompts to toss at me for fun, that would be great >.>; )

PRESANTS!

From: [identity profile] mamon-lugi.livejournal.com
How many prompts can I give ya? XD

hnn...how about...Big Bu and Luke. :D Cause I lurv them.
And..the situation..is...Bu has been missing for a few days, but is suddenly delivered (literally) to Luke's place tied up/restrained in a big purple silk bow. 8D *tard*

And if you're up for another one(or rather do this one), Present day Marduk and Umbrae sparring....in the rain. XD

Re: PRESANTS!

From: [identity profile] kiyakotari.livejournal.com
Cool! And I've already got writing examples from you for them, so you don't need to send me any.

I'll do the Bu/Luke Alan one, but I don't think I can bring myself to incorporate the purple silk bow aspect. Because. Um.

When you say present-day Umbrae and Marduk...do you mean AU/"Our Universe," or do you mean their "older" selves?

Re: PRESANTS!
