I hope this is not disrespectful, but if you wished to address the dificulties, we certainly would be interested in hearing about it in the fiction. It might not be your character directly, but she may need to learn how to care for people with it. I believe that would also be one of the common conditions for some of Pen's people, or Lacey's people. The black market labs weren't all that careful in setting up their biochemstry.
