Making Progress

My eyes have improved by leaps and bounds over the last few weeks. You may remember these prototype eyes that I shared a while back. The eyes below are the exact same pair, with some updates. (They're junk versions, full of bubbles and stuff, but I've tried a few different techniques on them and learned what I do and do not like, as far as results go.)

Oh, wow. These eyes give me the shivers.

I haven't commented on any of your doll photography - I've been utterly sandbagged for weeks now - but it's really extraordinary. Wonderful, telling shots. And for me just saturated with deja vu - yes, that's what I saw, back in 2005.

I'm really glad you like them. ^__^ And yes, you nailed exactly the reason I decided to "upgrade" portions of the crew. As much as I love the older dolls, these ones are so much closer to what I saw in my head.

My first four (assorted colors, not pairs) eyes made by combining all of the different techniques and tricks I've figured out are in the pressure pot right now, curing. So expect to see some pictures of non-junk eyes very soon.

Well, if you ever want to do a custom one-off doll or something, and need eyes, I'd be happy to supply them for a mention. I could use the advertising. ^_~

And yeah, it has taken me MONTHS of practice to get the hang of these things, and even now, one in three still turns out wrong somehow. It's a lot of work.

And on second though, that might be my wallet exploding.

Well, that's good, because I do intend on selling them. I even have a website all set up and ready to go. I'm just not quite ready to make the formal announcement on DoA and begin offering them to the public yet. I'll also have a booth in the vendor's hall at the PNW BJD Expo in Poulsbo, WA in May.

Seconding shipwreck_light here--heck yes, any colors you care to make and let us pay for them, I'ma gonna be all over that.
That is a fabulous color and clarity and you say it's a junk version!

I'm glad to hear that! It's a good sign for the future of my eye line. I'd hate to stop making them because I couldn't afford to purchase the supplies needed.

On the website, I say I don't take custom orders/requests, and I don't - for anyone but my friends. So if there's a particular color/size combination you're looking for, or you want me to try to recreate the look of a real human eye from a picture, let me know, and I'll see what I can do. That goes for everyone on this page, of course! You're all my buddies. ^____^
