Rude Awakening (Stop-Motion)

I've taken another crack at some stop-motion animation using one of the dolls. Been meaning to do so for a while now, but just haven't had the free time. It takes forever, and I'm still getting the hang of it (plus, my frame rate isn't quite as high as it should be), but I'm pleased with the results. This is only 7 seconds long, and that's including the fade! Still, I only had one toppling-doll incident, and everyone survived (though I had to lock the cat out of my bedroom, because she was far too interested in the whole process).

Er, let's just say Jian is high as a kite drugged out of his mind under the influence of pain medications due to some undefined injury, and that's why Wren doesn't wake him up when she's doing all that moving around. ^_^;; (The truth is, I didn't feel up to trying to do all this sequential posing with two dolls at once yet. So he gets to stay under the blankets there, looking asleep, and all you see is the back of his head.)

That's awesome. I was just trying to do some stop motion and -- yes -- super difficult! How many frames per second did you do. I just saw "Breaking the Barrier" that you had on youtube also -- that was very cool.

It's a frame rate of about 15 fps. 24 fps is considered the "standard" for good stop motion, so I've got a ways to go before I'm more than semi-decent. ^_~

Glad you liked it!

This looks really damn cool, and was well worth the effort, even for a short result. Posing the both of them sequentially would have been absolutely brutal, no doubt about it. o_o

Brutal and hazardous! I suspect we would have had far more dolls falling over if I'd been trying to pose both of them. ^_^;; I don't have any stands, so...

Ideally you'd need stands + somebody to spot the "actors" in their more strenuous poses, no doubt! You need a doll animation assistant. x3

No kidding. Heeyyy, [livejournal.com profile] dorrian_00... @_@

That is really cool! :D Awesome job!

How long did it take you to put that piece together?

[identity profile] kiyakotari.livejournal.com 2009-07-06 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Um...I started working on it around 03:30, and I finished at about 07:30. So 4-ish hours?

Really love the sweeping covers back/swinging legs out motion in particular; nice natural feel. Also, Wren's the awesomes.

That's my favorite part, too. Even as I was taking the photos, I was thinking, "This is gonna' fucking rock, this right here..."

[identity profile] sayashaw.livejournal.com 2009-07-06 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
that's super great! It has kind of an old-timey quality because of the slight jerkiness of the movements followed by smoothness. You could make a kick ass horror/action flick like that ^_^

[identity profile] kiyakotari.livejournal.com 2009-07-06 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
It does have that old, lower-fps or hand-cranked film feel to it, doesn't it? I hadn't thought of that. Hmmmmm....

She's my kind of chick -- reaching for weapons before breakfast *roar!*

^___^ Well, something woke her up. She has to go find out what it is, doesn't she? ^_~

This is awesome and the flow is really natural.

*ROFLS*

Kya, m'dear, where DO you find the patience for this business?

[identity profile] nagasvoice.livejournal.com 2009-07-07 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
That is really nice. Of course I always enjoy seeing Wren or Jian in action. But the setting is nice too, as in that story sequence where they're in the new apartment.
And she holds a gun the right way!! (But of course...)

wow
